First (and title) track 'Hard Drivin Woman' certainly lives up to the name, Sharrie's immense vocal power draws you in instantly and the band is certainly rocking hard…a cracking opening to a surprisingly strong collection. Sharrie unquestionably has one of the most compelling female voices I have heard in the Blues and this more than anything carries the album above the average. Her website states "Mrs. Sharrie Williams Is the Voice! A galactic vocal force to be reckoned with, a ragging flame of fire that has been sprayed with gasoline, she has a message burning within her soul". Ok there is a fair amount of hyperbole in that statement (it could be used to sell the next Will Smith blockbuster!) but it sounded so good I HAD to reproduce it here. Musically it's really a gospel album, her roots apparent (she started out at the age of twelve with the Greater Williams Temple church choir), with the Blues added in thanks, in the main, to her band The Wiseguys who support Sharrie well throughout (in getting the listeners head bobbing and feet a-tapping) but this album is all about Sharrie and THAT EARTH MOVING VOICE! (oh god, now I'm off). Not one I thought I'd dig but dig I do, deep man, deep! …
