Marcus Malone's latest offering is as assured a slice of accomplished soul-rock blues as you are likely to find. Marcus has had a hand in penning all of the material, five of which are joint ventures, and he is in good voice throughout. Stuart Dixon and Dan Smith share guitar duties to effect a rocking, solid wall of electric sound. The unerring rhythm section is made up of Jonathan Banks on bass, (replaced by Brad Waismaann for "Love on Bended Knee"), Tim Bye on drums and Moz Gamble on keyboards. Associations with Papa George are continued with George's appearance on two titles playing slide and some rhythm guitar. Another guest of note is Paul Jones who is also featured on two titles. For all his fame Paul's harmonica work is still vastly underrated. He is on the dubiously title "Double D" and "Candy" on which there are shades of Sugar Blue.
The influence of Brit-rockers such as Paul Rodgers seems very much in evidence, particularly so on "Hear My Train" (Malone/Guidi) and "Let Me Love You" (Malone/Barnes), both in terms of material and vocalisation. Simeon Jones, (son of folk legend Wizz), plays some hard-edged electric harp on "Blue Radio", which is as good as any rock-blues you will hear. With Andy Gathercole on trumpet, Simeon also features as saxophonist on "Supernatural Thing", which has perfect false endings. Soul ballad, "Love on Bended Knee" changes the setting and climaxes curtesy of Geoff Driscoli on sax and Andy again on trumpet. Acoustic ballad "Walk Away" is another softer title. Funky grooves become more prominent (Malone/Smith): big rock with funky horns, and "Mam Said" (Malone/Dixon), both with Geoff and rocks with attitude! The liner notes detail twelve titles but the disc itself has fifteen, three titles having been given a reprise: "Love on Bended Knee", "Candy", with lead guitar taking the previous harmonica limelight, and a very short "Mama Said". All-in-all fifty-five minutes of quality, soul-rock blues with awell placed tempo changes.
