"So here it is at last, the long awaited first full length CD from
BluesMove. The band have been touring successfully around the UK for
some time now and are always a popular attraction. Their five track
'promo' CD has been the only recorded material to date and has been well
reviewed but now here is the real McCoy! Ten tracks running for 52.26
and with five original tracks.
Kicking in with the ever popular live favourite "If Love Was A Train"
you get a feeling straight away that the guys have enjoyed making this
album and so you should enjoy listening to it too! "Get Out Of Jail"
skips along at a merry pace and dares you not to tap your feet at least
(ends suddenly). "Diplomat" is a well known number to fans who have seen
the band live and gets a reworking here though staying pretty faithful
to the previous version on the promo CD. The live epic "Slow Train" is
next to get, what the band are calling, the definitive treatment in the
studio setting. Having been so used to the promo version this took
several listens to accept. You know what it's like when you get so used
to something being a certain way, then someone changes it - it's not the
same is it? But do not close your ears it could be better, or just
different. There's more room here, the drums of Mike Hellier drive this
one along but not too heavily (he has a deft touch this guy), the guitar
of Howard Smith has more depth to it and the voice gives more pain to
the lyric. This is simply a classic live song. (We did dare to suggest
that the band included a live bonus track on this CD, maybe on
re-pressing eh??).
"Remington Ride" is a lively instrumental that
shuffles along with jangling piano work and compact, varied guitar
phrases and will encourage the dancers to take the floor and get
breathless. "Rhythm Of Life" has a punchy and very catchy intro then
develops into a full blown tribute to the woman in your life with great
work from all the guys. "Brand New Friend" takes the tone down low and
gentle with very neat piano and sympathetic guitar while Mike's
thoughtful drumming weaves the fabric on which the pattern is laid down
and the intensity builds. This will be a huge live favourite there's no
doubt! You'd expect to hear Howard Smith crying at the end with all the
emotion he put into this. "T-Bone Shuffle" is probably just what you'd
expect with a title like that, punchy, rhythmic, and another for the
dancers. "She's A Burglar" is the penultimate track, again re-worked
from the promo CD. Has a lighter touch in some places but is a 'fuller'
track here and the better for it with new parts for each band member.
"Good Thing Is About To Run Out" brings the album to it's close and is
an apt title as THIS GOOD ALBUM IS ABOUT TO RUN OUT on us!! and what a
good album it is!!... It's not heavy blues, there's no pyrotechnic
superstars here just a bloody good band playing bloody good music to
thoroughly bloody well enjoy! ..so do as you're told and get a copy and
doooo see them live!!!!..so says 'Caleb'.
We've told you before about these guys so do yourself a favour if
they're in your area on tour make sure you catch them, and buy this album!"
