** BLUE BISHOPS UPDATE ** I'm delighted to be able to say that Jim Rodford will be joining us to add his world-class experience and musicianship to the band.
As the former bass player with Argent, the Kinks, the Animals, the Zombies and even Lonnie Donegan, his experience speaks for itself. Not to mention his enthusiasm for the kind of driving music the Bishops have a reputation for delivering.
While we are sad to see Martin go, we wish him loads of luck and understand his need to comeplete a project that's been close to his heart for a long time. But at the same time we are delighted to give Jim the warm welcome he deserves and look forward to having another fine bass player driving the music forward.
Martin will be completing his time with the Bishops for all the gigs in May 06, and will appear at the Great
British R+B Festival in Colne, where the Bishops close the show on the night of the appearance of Nine Below Zero, Doctor Feelgood and the Animals.
The very latest Blue Bishops tour period has been announced as being between the 7th - 16th July 2006. All interested promoters and venue owners can contact us about booking them on 01209 860067 or by e-mail.
The Blue Bishops were recently asked to headline the very first date at the new blues club based at the Limelight theatre in Aylesbury. Click here to read the review.
The Bishops are currently promoting their second album,
"Deep" (formely known under its working title "HOOKS N' CROOKS") which has just been chosen as one of Blues in Britain's "Picks of 2002". One of their original compositions, "WORDS LEFT
UNSAID" appears on the Bishopstock '99 Compilation CD, along with tracks from
Taj Mahal, Buddy Guy and Robert Cray. Click here for Realaudio/MP3's from this album and for mail order details.
The Bishops spend most of their playing time in Europe, where
the harder, rocky edge of their blues style has a wide cross over appeal.
They appear regularly in Holland and Belgium. Their Belgian festival appearances
include the Swing Festival in Wespelaar , the Blues Parade in Peer, and more
recently a very successful appearance in one of the prime open air slots at
the world renowned Gent Festival, which had over 2 million people attend over
its ten day period this year. Click here for the latest European tour reviews in French.
The new album marks the welcome addition
to the band of bass player and record producer Martin Turner, known all over
the world for his work as a founder member and long time player with celebrated
rock band, Wishbone Ash. Geoff Grange, the harp player and vocalist, is a
long term collaborator and player with ex- Rolling Stone Bill Wyman, and appears
on a number of his albums, both singing and playing.
All five members of the Bishops write music
and have contributed to the new album. Their live work and this latest recorded
material demonstrates a broad appeal to both young rock audiences and the
more purist blues fans, and that the blues never stands still. In the summer
of '99 they opened for Taj Mahal at BISHOPSTOCK, the UK's premier Blues and
R&B open air festival, to critical acclaim from the international press and
the business, and a very warm welcome from the crowd. One of only four British
bands on a bill of thirty, they were in illustrious company, as other artists
on the bill included Robert Cray, Buddy Guy, Charlie Musselwhite, Shemeika
Copeland, and the The Blind Boys of Alabama.
BLUE BISHOPS - GIG REVIEW 2002
Reviewed by Sironval André
What an amazing evening! The Blue Bishops at the top of their form. For
those who don`t know, the Blue Bishops must rank as high as the fabulous
Blues Band.
They played a mix of old favourites and recent songs of their own
composition. Not only do they master their instruments perfectly, but they
are also very good composers, as their CD "Deep" proves convincingly.
They took us back to the 60s (Fleetwood Mac, Clapton, Rob Johnson, Muddy Waters, Hendrix, Duster Bennet, Dylan), for the most part songs less
familiar to the public at large but very well known to those present. They
managed to bring to each piece a touch of their own genius so that it
sometimes sounded slightly better than the original. Their "Highway61" I
dare not even comment on, I can`t find the right words. It still gives me
goosepimples - fantastic! "No Religious Man" left me flabbergasted - top
class. After a set of 20 titles the group came back to give us a hell-raising interpretation of
"Gimme some Loving", played with such fierceness that we are still dreaming
about it.
I hope to see them again here, because it was really one of the best
concerts of this year`s Spirit 66.
Special congratulations for the exceptionally good sound and mixing; we really savoured every note played by these sincere and warm-hearted
musicians,
